Christian Or Campbellite?

David McPherson

Sometimes Christians are called "Campbellites." Notice a few reasons why members of Christ's church are not Campbellites.

1) Not Campbell's disciples. We do not follow Campbell and his teaching. We follow Christ, and ONL Y Christ and His word. The holy scriptures are they that "thoroughly equip" one for good works (2 Tim. 3:16-17), not the words of Campbell.

2) Campbell was not crucified for us. Unlike the case at Corinth (1 Cor. 1:10-13), Christians today understand that "one" was crucified for us. That one was Christ, not Paul, not Apollos, not Cephas, nor Alexander Campbell.

3) We reject human names and designations. Those of us accused of being "Campbellites" don't wear the name. We wear the name of our Lord, Savior, and Teacher: Jesus Christ. To wear the names of mere men as a religious expression is wrong (1 Cor. 3:4). Members of the church of Christ are simply Christians (Acts 11 :26).
