The other day I received an invitation from the "Awana Clubs" of the Calvary Baptist Church. The invitation emphasized such things as fun, carnival, games, cotton candy, dunk tank, moonwalk, candy, snow cones, and prizes.
The invitation also stated, "The goal of Awana is to reach boys and girls with the Gospel of Christ and train them to serve Him. This is the end result, but the method is FUN!" Additionally, the ad stated "approved workmen are not ashamed (2 Tim.2:15)"
Did you ever hear of such? I understand that an approved workman of God is not to be ashamed. But, I also understand that this same approved workman is one who, as a result of diligence and study, can handle aright the word of truth.
When "FUN" is the method used to lead people to Christ, the word is not being handled aright. Let us never become ashamed of the Gospel of Christ. For it (not fun) is the power of God unto salvation!
