Heavenly Words

David McPherson

Various words are associated with heaven. Such words help to better understand what heaven will be like. Notice a few:

1) Rest. Heaven is indeed a place of rest. The Hebrew writer spoke of the "promise remaining of entering His (God's) rest" (Heb. 4:1). This rest is not laziness, but a freedom or release from the labors and cares of the world; A peace from an on-going battle with Satan.

2) Home. Heaven is where the faithful will be "at home with the Lord" (see 2 Cor. 5:1-8). Christians are pilgrims in search of a better city. God's children are awaiting their eternal abode where peace, love, and joy dwell. Truly, there's no place like home.

3) Inheritance. "Blessed be the God... ... who has begotten us... ...to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled... ...in heaven" (1 Pt. 1:3-4). Christians are the "heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ " (Rom. 8:17). As such, they are prepared to lay hold of eternal life. Are you in line to receive this wonderful gift?
