What Are We Gonna Do?

David McPherson

1.) It’s Sunday morning. A member of the church walks into the meeting house with a guitar. He’s scheduled to lead the singing and is determined to do so with the accompaniment of his mechanical instrument? What are we gonna do?

2.) It’s Sunday morning. A member of the church is preparing the elements for the Lord’s Supper. She has decided to use quail and water since both are mentioned in the Bible. What are we gonna do?

3.) It’s Sunday morning. A member of the church is not present for the scheduled services of the church. As a matter of fact, it has been a very, very long time since he/she was present. What are we gonna do?

Thankfully, I’ve never known of members in the Lord’s church being guilty of the first two scenarios. Unfortunately, the third act is seen quite too often. And just as saddening is that many times nothing is done to correct the situation.

If either of the first two instances were realities in most conservative churches of Christ today, the elders would be on it like "ugly on an ape"- and rightly so. But why, brethren are we not just as concerned about the brother or sister who continually forsakes the assembling of ourselves together (Heb. 10:25)? Is he/she any less guilty of error? Certainly not!

It is high time that we "get off the stool of do-little, and stop whittling on the stick of do-less" and take a stand against EVERY sin that attempts to creep into the church. What are we gonna do?
