Bread of Life

Michael Pickford

I love to sit down to a steaming piece of fresh homemade bread. I have had the pleasure of knowing many ladies (and a few men) who can make mouth-watering bread. Add a little butter, maybe some honey or jelly..UMMM! Can’t be beat, right? Wrong. There is a bread which is much sweeter, much more refreshing, much more pleasing. It’s the bread of life. Jesus said in John 6:33, “For the bread of God is He who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.” Jesus is speaking here of the sweetness of eternal life. Eternal glory! There is a bread which can give us the sweet taste of butter, honey, and freshly cooked dough. Then there is a bread which can give us the taste of heaven. What is that bread? Who is that Bread? Jesus gives us the answer a couple of verses later, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to me shall never hunger, and he who believes in me shall never thirst.” (Jn 6:35). What a glorious promise! If we will come to Jesus with belief in our hearts and obedience in our actions, we can taste the sweet bread of heaven. Many people are already dining at the table at which the bread of life is served. Won’t you join us?
