Making Death Beautiful

Michael Pickford

I love the fall. The cool, crisp air, the change of seasons, and especially the beautiful colors found in the leaves of plants and trees. An interesting thought occurred to me one beautiful autumn. I was enjoying those beautiful colors, when in reality, those colors were there because tress were dying! Death was taking place all around me and yet it was beautiful. God is the One who made the plants and trees, and He is the One in control of nature. He makes death beautiful every fall. Could there be a lesson there for us? Only God can make death beautiful. One fact that doesn’t appeal to us is that we will all die. “And it is appointed for men to die once...” (Heb. 9:27). But God has chosen to give us the opportunity to make our death beautiful. He sent His Son to die for our sins. However, we must take the initiative to accept this gift by obeying the Lord through baptism (Heb. 5:8,9; Mk. 16:16). God illustrates every fall His power to make death beautiful. He can make your death beautiful as well. Won’t you come?
