Move Over

Michael Pickford

There’s a story about a little boy who fell out of bed one night. His mother said, “Why did you fall?” he replied, “I guess I stayed to close to where I got in.” She said, “When you get in, move over!” This reminds me of many Christians. I refer to them as “Pew fillers.” They get into Christ through baptism (Gal. 3:26,27), then they stay too close to where they got in. When one first gets in, he is a babe in Christ (Heb. 5:13). But if he will take the initiative to study God’s word, develop a prayer life, teach his friends and neighbors, he will be moving away from the edge of the bed. However, if he stays too close to the edge by not growing in the grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ (2 Pet. 3:18), he will fall. Amazingly, some people can fall out of bed and not even realize it; they just keep sleeping. Many think they are still in God’s graces because they sooth their consciences by filling the pews three times a week and that’s ALL they do. What a shame! Don’t take a chance on falling from grace (Gal. 5:4), if you have gotten into Christ...MOVE OVER!
